Frequently Asked Questions
Please feel free to contact us with any questions you might have!
Do you accept insurance?
At this time, our services are private pay only and we are not in-network with any insurance plans. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, we can provide a coded itemized receipt of payment (also known as a superbill) for families seeking reimbursement from their insurance provider for out-of-network costs. It is the responsibility of the client's family to understand your coverage and obtain authorization, if needed, for any out-of-network services and determine whether superbills are accepted for reimbursement. Benefits of paying out of pocket include: no referral from your primary care physician needed, no limits on which types of therapy services are covered, no maximum on the total number of sessions, and no surprise fees.
How do I know my child may need speech-language therapy?
Some signs that your child may need speech-language therapy include talking very little or not talking at all, difficulty producing sounds and being understood, repeating words or parts of words when talking, having trouble following directions, difficulty understanding and asking questions, difficulty understanding concepts, difficulties with reading comprehension and using appropriate grammar and sentence structure. If you think your child may need support from a speech-language pathologist, don’t hesitate to call us for a complimentary consultation to discuss your child’s development.
How long will my child need to get speech therapy?
As much as we would love to give parents an answer to this question, there are many factors to consider before we can offer an estimated timeline such as the nature of your child’s speech/language challenge, the severity of the condition, how old your child is, how soon speech therapy services were sought, whether there are other disorders or conditions present, and home carry-over of treatment recommendations. However, at Talking in Strides we are dedicated to providing truly individualized therapy based on each child’s unique needs in order to maximize the time we have with your child to facilitate progress and decrease the length of time your child needs to remain in therapy.
My child was denied therapy services by their school, can they still receive speech therapy?
Yes! One of the many benefits of private speech therapy is there are far less/no restrictions. School systems provide speech services to children who qualify under a strict set of federal and state education laws and regulations. Just because your child was not found eligible for school based services, does not mean that they would not benefit from speech-language therapy. We can discuss your concerns and your child’s needs to create a treatment plan that works best for your family.
My child receives school-based speech services. Can additional services help?
Yes! Even if your child is currently receiving speech-language services through the school system, speech-language pathologists who provide services in the schools typically have more children on their caseload than recommended. Supplemental therapy from a provider outside of the school system, can reduce the time children spend in treatment. Therefore, children are best served when speech-language pathologists from both school and the medical systems work collaboratively. Many times, children attain their best potential by being served in both settings simultaneously. -American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
